PILP Sends Advocacy Letter Urging Expanded Care for Opioid Use Disorder in Lackawanna County Prison

The Pennsylvania Institutional Law Project (PILP) has sent a letter to Lackawanna County Prison (LCP) officials urging better care for those in their charge suffering from Opioid Use Disorder (OUD). In the letter, PILP attorneys commend LCP for recently taking the very important step of implementing the provision of MOUD to those individuals who were prescribed methadone and buprenorphine prior to their incarceration. However, the new program only applies to individuals who arrived at the prison after March 2023, leaving those incarcerated prior to that date left without care. PILP is urging officials to change that policy and start providing MOUD to all incarcerated people with Opioid Use Disorder (OUD), and as soon as possible. Read the full letter here.
